Arthur was born in Fulham in 3 Nov 1896,
the son of George, a Grocer, and his wife Jane (nee Beynon) In the
1911 census he was listed as a Telegraph Messenger for the General
Post Office, aged 14.
Service record shows that he enlisted in the 25th County of
London Cyclist Battalion :- No. 1917 Address - 41 Furness Rd,
Fulham, Enlisted 7 Dec 1914 He was attached to the 19th London
Regt. (London Div. Cyclist Company) no. 348, and transferred to the
Army Cyclist Corps 1 Nov 1916, no. 13065. He served in France
from 24 Sep 1915 and was wounded on the 16 Oct 1918. He returned to
the UK on the 17 Dec 1918, where he spent 52 days in the Stourbridge
Military Hospital.
