Charles Jelley was born on the 31 Dec 1889 in Borrodaile Road, Wandsworth, the son of Henry, a paper mill labourer, and Jane (nee Ashmore). Charlie was one of 12 children.

He married Dulce Coward on the  19 Dec 1915, they had 2 children.

He continued to live in Wandsworth post war. Residences included  Ram Square (now demolished) adjacent to the Young’s Brewery, and latterly Bodmin Street,  Southfields.

He served in the “25th Londons from 15.01.15 until the end of 1919.

On leaving the army he started work at the gas works in Wandsworth where he stayed throughout his working life.

He died on the 11 Aug 1961.
