George Edwin Valentine COPPARD
George was born on the 14 Feb 1889 in
Bermondsey, the son of George West Coppard, a commercial
traveller, and Florence Jane (nee Croucher).
In the 1911
census George was listed as a clerk for an elastic cord
manufacturer.
Army Pension
record Enlisted - 18 May 1908 joined the 25th London
Bn. Stated he was currently serving in the 2. V.B. Mdx, H
company. Discharged - 31 Mar 1809 Address - Clarendon Rd,
Ashford, Mdx Occupation - Estate agents clerk.
It
appears he rejoined the 25th at sometime however the service
record appears to be among the records lost in WW2. His medal
card has the following :- (1) a/R.S.M., A/W.O. - 2/25th
London Regt. (2) A/Capt. - Army Cyclists Corp. Medal card
address - (1) Granville House, 28 Grove Rd, Surbiton. (2) 35
Southwark Brid/s Rd, London, S.E.1. however the
medal roll (B roll, sheet 2) has :- (1) 25th Lond. R. (2)
Posted 13 Rifle Brig. A/R.S.M. 17.4.17 to 4.11.17 Comm.

Londoner - the battalion magazine -
V.2 No.1 pg.10 Third Line Notes Cpl. J.F. Ditchman,
an old member of the 26th Middlesex, who joined the 3rd
Battalion nearly 2 years ago, is leaving for France with seven
other N.C.O's. of that Battalion, one of them being C.S.M.
Coppard.
