He volunteered for service in November 1915, and at the close of his
training went to
Salonika
, where he contracted malaria. From there he was sent to
India
, where he did duty at Simla and other stations, and also took part in
quelling the Afghan risings. He was demobilised in December 1919, and
holds the General Service and Victory Medals, and the
India
General Service Medal (with clasp,
Afghanistan
, N.W. Frontier, 1919).
