William Eric MARSH


William was born in 1892 [Birth Regn. Q1 1892 Barnet 3a 248] in Finchley, Middlesex [1911 census], and baptised at St. Mary's Church, Finchley, on 7 Feb 1892, the son of Edgar Thomas Meacher Marsh, & Elizabeth (nee Jacques). His father was an assistant master at King's College School [1892 baptism], and a Private Tutor & Examiner [1911 census]. William's occupation in 1911 was a Commercial Clerk.

He is mentioned in the London Gazette of 5 Apr 1918, pg.4125, Territorial Force, from Officer Cadet Units, to be 2nd Lt., London Regiment.

His Commission Certificate dated 28 Mar 1918 apponts him an Officer in The Territorial Force from the 19th of March to rank of 2nd Lt. The cover of this Commission is labeled "25th (County of London) Cyclist Battalion, The London Regiment".

He entered Canada on the 19th Feb 1920 at Vancouver on the 'Empress of Japan' from Hong Kong. His passenger card declaring him to be a British Army Officer, in transit, born in Barnet, England.

On the 30 Mar 1930 he shown in the passenger list arriving at London on the  Maloja :-
William Eric Marsh, age 39, Railway Officer, embarked Madras, address 29 Dalmeny Ave, Tufnell Park, N.7.

On the 22 Feb 1935 he shown in the passenger list arriving in England on the  S.S. Mulbera :-
William Eric Marsh, age 43, Railway Officer, embarked Bombay, address 19 Whikthorn Gardens, Addiscombe, Croydon.

He is mentioned in the London Gazette of 29 Jan 1943, pg.559, appointed as a 2nd Lt. from 6 Sep 1942.

William died in 1974 [Death Regn. Mar Q, 1974, Worthing, 5H 3875].
